Introducing the New Password-Protected Section on Our Website!

We are excited to announce a significant update to our union’s website that aims to enhance the security and confidentiality of our valuable resources. Today, we are launching a brand new password-protected section, exclusively designed for our esteemed union members.

As the world becomes increasingly digital, safeguarding our information has become imperative. With this in mind, we have taken a proactive step towards strengthening the security measures of our online platform. The password-protected section will allow us to securely share essential union-related materials, such as meeting minutes, exclusive reports, and other confidential documents.

To access the password-protected section, you will need to follow a few simple steps:

Visit our union’s website at https://cupe389.ca/members-only-section/
Enter the  password provided in the email.

Please note that this new section is exclusively accessible to active CUPE Local 389 union members. The email containing the password has been sent to those we have current contact information, if you become aware of any members who did not receive this email, please have them contact  to have their contact information updated. Upon update of information, the union will send the information to enter the members only section. The password is not to be provided to anyone other than by the union, to ensure we can verify the member.  The information on the webpage is for the sole use of CUPE Local 389 members only, and as such, is bound by confidentiality. Its contents (including any attachments) are confidential and may contain privileged information.  Upon entering the site, you are in agreement with this confidentiality clause and will abide by it.  Again, the information is confidential and is intended only for the member entering the members only section. By doing so, we can collectively ensure the privacy and security of our digital environment.

We believe that this upgrade will significantly improve our ability to share important updates, maintain transparency and foster effective communication within our union community. We encourage you to explore the password-protected section regularly to stay informed and engaged in the union’s activities.

The Cupe389 Social Committee invites members to watch the “Vancouver Canadians” go up against the “Hillsboro Hops”

When: Saturday June 17th 1:05PM

Where: “The Nat” Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium 4601 Ontario St, Vancouver, BC V5V 3H4

How: email your request for up to 5 tickets (CUPE 389 Members & Family only please) to

Tickets will be distributed on a first come first served basis. (We’ve got 400!)

Tickets will be given out at the park starting at Noon.

Bargaining Update #2 – District of North Vancouver Bargaining

CUPE 389 Bargaining Update May 12, 2023

We wanted to provide a brief update on bargaining for District of North Vancouver members.

We are pleased to report that in our first meetings we have been able to agree to several non-monetary and fairly straightforward bargaining proposals. We feel that this is a positive start, but there are still several significant items to be discussed.

We continue to pursue collective agreement terms to enshrine job security and improve recruitment and retention and have communicated to the employer that this is a priority for the union.

Our focus, has been and will continue to be, ensuring we have a productive and progressive round of bargaining and working with the District to make sure CUPE 389 members have the supports they need at work to provide quality public services to residents, visitors and businesses in the District of North Vancouver.

We will be meeting again to bargain on May 24, and we expect to have another update following that.

NOTICE REGARDING BENEFIT PREMIUMS

NOTICE TO ALL CUPE 389 MEMBERS

CUPE Local 389 will end the practice of paying benefit premiums for employees who have exhausted their sick leave, are awaiting LTD, on LTD beyond 2 years, or any other paid or unpaid leaves from the employer.

In February 2023, the members of CUPE Local 389 passed a motion to end this practice, as it has become cost prohibitive for the practice to continue.

Each employee will be responsible for paying the premiums to your employer to continue with your benefits.  Each employer has their own system of collecting these premiums, and it is recommended that you reach out to your benefit manager at your worksite to set up these payments to avoid any lapse in coverage.

Please note that premiums paid for group benefits are a medical expense which can be claimed on your income tax.
