Bargaining Update #1 – District of North Vancouver Bargaining
Your bargaining committee for the District of North Vancouver (DNV) had their first day of negotiations on April 4, with another day of bargaining today.
We are committed to addressing the key concerns members have identified to us which includes a fair and reasonable wage increase to help address the economic crisis workers are facing from record high inflation. We also plan to address the issue of recruitment and retention within the DNV, which has been a concern for both the union and the DNV.
Several other CUPE Locals who represent municipal workers are currently in negotiations in this region including the Township of Langley and the City of New Westminster. Through our CUPE Servicing Representative and CUPE’s Municipal Coordinator in BC we are working to coordinate closely with other locals to ensure we can make positive gains for all workers.
We have already seen CUPE 23 and the City of Burnaby and CUPE 774 and the City of Abbotsford negotiate agreements that provide wage increases that are reflective of the current economic climate and significant benefit improvements that help support workers and their families.
Our focus, has been and will continue to be, ensuring we have a productive and progressive round of bargaining and working with the District to make sure CUPE 389 members have the supports they need at work to provide quality public services to residents, visitors and businesses in the District of North Vancouver. CUPE members are the District’s front line workers. We are proud to represent the DNV in the community and provide vital public services that ensure the DNV is well cared for.
