Dear CUPE 389 Members,
CUPE 389 is excited to announce that we’ve secured 250 tickets to the Vancouver Canadians baseball game on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at Nat Bailey Stadium.
The game starts at 1:05 p.m., and they’ll be playing the Spokane Indians.
As approved by the membership on Saturday, April 26, CUPE 389 will provide these tickets at a discounted rate of $10 each (the local will cover $12 per ticket, up to 4 tickets per member).

All employees are entitled to have three consecutive hours off on election day (April 28) for the purpose of casting a vote. If you do not have three consecutive hours off work between 7am and 7pm on April 28, you can request time off for the purposes of voting. Please note, your Employer is not required to give you three hours off in the middle of the day, you are just entitled to three consecutive hours to vote between 7am and 7pm.

These scholarships are offered annually for the advancement in any branch of higher learning of any child graduating from Grade 12, whose parent or guardian is a member of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 389; or of any child graduating from Grade 12, who is a member of CUPE Local 389.
The member or one parent or guardian of the applicant, must be a member in good standing of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 389 (North Vancouver) and must be employed by either.

These scholarships are awarded for the advancement of the student in any branch of higher learning.
1. Ten scholarships of $1,000.00 each, are offered annually for the advancement in any
branch of post-secondary education of any child graduating from Grade 12, whose parent or
guardian is a member of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 389; or of any child
graduating from Grade 12, who is a member of CUPE Local 389.
2. These scholarships will be known as The Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 389
(North Vancouver) Scholarships.
3. Applications for these scholarships must be received on or before April 30, 2025, by
4:30 p.m. The successful applicants will be presented with a LETTER OF INTENT which will
expire on the 30th day of September of the following year.
4. In order to submit your application successfully, you must follow the requests below:
• The application must be accompanied by a letter stating what the scholarship
would be used for if successful.
• Additionally, the application must be supported by two letters of
recommendation, one of which must be from a teacher at the school the
applicant is attending, and one from a non-school reference.
• The application must also include, for adjudication purposes, the most recent
report card.
• And finally, the application must also include volunteer experience.
• In addition to the above requirements, each applicant will submit a 250-word
statement responding to the question, “WHAT DOES TRADE UNIONISM MEAN
TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY?”
5. In the event that there should be more than ten applicants in any one year, the
applications will be submitted to an impartial committee for decision. The recommendations of
that committee are binding on all applicants.
6. The decision as to what constitutes a post-secondary education shall rest entirely with
the members of the Executive Board of the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 389.
7. The names of the recommended candidates will be announced at the May General
Meeting.
8. The award will be paid to the Bursar, or other recognised officer of a post-secondary
institution, on production to the Secretary-Treasurer of Canadian Union of Public Employees
Local 389, of confirmation of acceptance and proof of enrolment, including the student
number, by that post-secondary institution.
9. Announcements of the winners will be made through a press release to North Shore News.
The scholarship is named in honour of CUPE 389’s long-time president Cindy McQueen who retired in 2022.
